Your baby only turns one once. Why not make it a smashingly fun time with cake?!
Sometimes it's fun to pick a theme that suits your taste and your child's personality. Share your ideas with me and we can brainstorm together
Select a cake that fits the theme and colour scheme of the session. Consider getting/making a small (preferably light coloured icing), smashable cake that’s easy for your child to handle.
Pick an outfit that’s cute but also easy to clean. Consider a simple onesie or a dress that you don’t mind getting messy. I may have some outfits for your one-year-old in my closet, let me know what you are thinking and I'll let you know if I have something you may like.
I tend to use a simple easy to clean backdrop and flooring, but we can definitely make it unique and fun by adding balloons, banners, props, etc. to enhance the theme/outfit.
You can incorporate props that match the theme of your session i.e. toys, hats, and other accessories. Including things that your child is interested in into the photoshoot can add personality and fun to the photos.
Be ready for a mess! Bring a change of clothes, and a towel for clean-up after the session. I include bath photos with my session (if you want them, it's totally up to you), they usually have a blast with some bubbles in a tub. Bring some bath accessories you use at home to add a special touch i.e. special hooded towel, rubber ducky, etc.
It's best to schedule the session when your child is well-rested and in a good mood. Try to avoid nap times to ensure they’re ready to enjoy the cake. Cake smashes are usually done up to a month before the child's actual birthday to allow time for editing so the photos can be shared on their birthday
Introduce the idea of the cake smash to your child beforehand to get them curious and excited. This should hopefully be a fun and exciting experience for them.
My goal is for everyone to have fun and to capture happy memories for you.
